Job Type: Full-time

About Us

AmcoGiffen is a leading provider of engineering services, delivering complex civil, rail, and infrastructure projects across the UK. Our in-house design team brings together specialists at every level, and we’re growing. We’re now looking for skilled Temporary Works Design Engineers to join our expanding North West team based in Warrington and help shape safe, innovative engineering solutions.

Role Overview

As a Temporary Works Design Engineer, you will develop technical solutions that support a wide range of rail and non-rail infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the business, you’ll contribute to high-quality, robust designs that meet client requirements and uphold our commitment to safety, innovation, and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Applying sound engineering principles to propose confident, practical solutions.
  • Challenging briefs constructively to develop clear, innovative designs from feasibility through to detailed stages.
  • Designing and checking Temporary Works engineering solutions.
  • Producing clear, consistent calculations, reports, and sketches aligned with current Codes of Practice and Standards.
  • Communicating design intent and requirements effectively within the team and with project stakeholders.
  • Representing the design function in meetings with internal teams, clients, and external partners.
  • Supporting the team’s financial, quality, and programme objectives.
  • Promoting safe working practices across all activities.
  • Contributing to the management of staff and projects as required.

About You

  • Degree-qualified Civil or Design Engineer (BSc / BEng / CEng).
  • Experience in civil engineering design, such as bridges, structures, stations, or platforms.
  • Strong background in Temporary Works design within rail or civils environments.
  • Chartered or working towards professional membership (ICE / IStructE) at Chartered or Incorporated level.
  • Experience gained within client, contractor, or consultancy organisations is welcome.
