Role description

At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting for a Design & Integration Engineer - Battery Pack to be based at our office in Warwick.

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

This is a 3-month contractor position with expected start date in October and ending December. Limited company contractors can be considered, and role is positioned as outside of IR35 subject to an IR35 assessment being completed at the offer stage.

The Role:

Tata Technologies is seeking a highly experienced Design & Integration Engineer - High Voltage Battery Pack to lead the development of next-generation EV battery systems for global automotive customers. The ideal candidate should possess deep expertise in battery pack architecture, mechanical and electrical integration, packaging engineering, HV safety, CAE-driven design optimization, thermal management, supplier collaboration, and vehicle integration. This is a technical leadership role requiring hands-on engineering capability combined with the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams, suppliers, vehicle engineering groups, manufacturing teams, and validation organizations.

Area of Responsibility

  • Battery Pack Design & System Engineering
    • Lead end-to-end HV battery pack development from concept through production.
    • Define battery pack architecture including housing, mounting strategy, cooling concept, electrical distribution, HV interfaces, and serviceability requirements.
    • Develop robust battery solutions balancing cost, performance, weight, manufacturability, durability, and safety.
    • Translate vehicle-level requirements into detailed battery system requirements.
  • Battery Integration & Packaging
    • Assess integration of all battery components within the battery housing.
    • Assess integration of the HV battery pack into vehicle platforms.
    • Perform package studies, vehicle integration studies, and installation feasibility assessments.
    • Perform clash analysis, package analysis, and interface analysis using CAD and CAE tools.
    • Evaluate battery enclosure packaging optimization and space claims.
    • Manage battery-to-vehicle interfaces across BIW, chassis, thermal, electrical, charging, and powertrain systems.
    • Review supplier CAD data for completeness, consistency, manufacturability, and geometric feasibility.
    • Evaluate structural integrity and durability requirements.
  • Thermal Management & Safety
    • Drive development of battery thermal management concepts.
    • Lead DFMEA, system-level risk analysis, design reviews, and corrective action implementation.
    • Support compliance with AIS-156, UN-R100, ISO 26262, IEC standards, and other applicable global regulations.
  • CAE & Simulation Leadership
    • Lead CAE-driven design optimization activities, CFD simulations, Crash simulations
    • Modal and vibration analysis

Knowledge / Experience

  • Passenger or commercial EV Programs, Battery Pack Supplier Programs
  • 10+ years of automotive product development / or equivalent experience.
  • Significant understanding of both electrical and mechanical aspects of HV battery systems.
  • Excellent supplier management and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with expertise in design issue resolution.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
