Job Title: Design Management Region Lead
Reporting to: Head of Design Management
Role Purpose
The Design Management Regional Lead will provide strategic design management for a portfolio of Power Transmission and Distribution projects covering design delivery, management, and governance. This includes initial opportunity, through bid development and contract negotiation, mobilisation and delivery, and finally project completion and close out. This role requires strong leadership skills and control of a multi-disciplinary team comprising design resources at all levels.
The Design Management Regional Lead will lead, manage, mentor, and develop, a team of Design Managers, Assistant Design Managers, and Graduates seeking to develop a Design Management career path.
Design Management Regional Leads are expected to work closely with the relevant BUGM, Project Director, and Project Managers, and lead positive engagement with internal and external stakeholders to manage the scope risks and programme of the portfolio of projects designs. This is expected to include coordinating with all the relevant parties within Omexom – with an emphasis on providing the right design solutions both from a technical and value engineering perspective.
Working with the Design BU team to develop processes & methodologies for engagement of resources, improve team efficiency, and measure and improve project outcomes whilst ensuring resource capability and availability for their portfolio of project designs following successful handover and throughout the Project Delivery, including the management of change and optioneering necessary for construction projects.
The Design Management Regional Lead can delegate responsibility for the direct delivery of projects designs into the Design Managers within their team whilst still being accountable for the overall portfolio of projects design under their remit.
The Design Management Regional Lead has responsibility for the way the team works, leading the selection of the right methods of engagement and processes used on their projects. Whilst ensuring best practice is shared with other Design Management Regional Leads in the team.

Including but not limited to the following:
- Design management for safe and quality delivery of design scope of project(s) – on time and on budget, managing the project design risks.
- Manage and create a culture of innovation and collaboration among your team seeking opportunities to deliver safer, better, faster, and more profitably.
- Recruit, train, and motivate a team of Design managers at all levels, not limited to apprentices and graduate level.
- Identifies longer-term strategic training to support individual development as required creating a culture of innovation and collaboration among engineers.
- Support the overall Design SSP for the business and Omexom clients.
- Develops design-related KPIs in line with Project objectives and monitors performance.
- Supports the project teams to resolve Design issues rapidly to avoid and minimize costs and programme impacts.
- Ensures all design deliverables align with the construction programme.
- Assistance and expert knowledge to reinforce the objectives of the Bid Managers including technical support for the QS representatives during contract negotiations.
- Production and maintenance of key project strategy documents.
- Ensuring compliance with Omexom Governance and customer requirements whilst developing and executing design strategies to support business objectives.
- Manages the design change process to minimize cost impact and inform the QS of potential changes and the implications.
- Reports back as necessary to update Design BUGM, Head of Design Management, and Heads of Discipline.

Competencies
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- Experience in the Power industry with relevant qualifications (Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or similar).
- Proven track record in managing and leading teams.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Takes ownership of tasks and communicates outcomes with clarity, direction, and purpose, including managing others in this regard.
- Supporting teams to deliver programs safely, on time, on budget, and to a high quality.
- Good technical grounding, experience, and engineering delivery.
- Project leadership at a management level, delivering a range of projects from Standard to Complex projects.
- Experience of working in the UK HV Networks sector and within highly regulated industries.
- Excellent team player and team leader, able to work competently and independently without supervision.
- Able and willing to make decisions following consideration of options based on the best available information.
- Strong communication skills with a track record of solution-orientated approach to issue resolution.
- Demonstrable experience of innovation, in all fields (Health and Safety, Design innovation, Operational Delivery etc).
- Experienced in the recruitment and development of talent within the business, including mentoring, stretch, and challenge for junior team members and ensuring clearly defined development plans are in place.
- Wide-ranging independent judgement evident, proven track record in this regard.
- Has achieved professional accreditation and undertakes extra-curricular activities to advance the profession.
- Acceptance of responsibility of role, and actively seeks opportunities to enhance personal performance and the performance of others within the Project Team.
