Role Overview
Shape Better Buildings Across Yorkshire
We're looking for an experienced Design Manager to join our established Design Management team and play a key role in delivering high-quality construction projects across Yorkshire.
Working closely with clients, consultants and project delivery teams, the Design Manager will lead the design process from pre-construction through to project completion, ensuring designs are coordinated, compliant, buildable and aligned with project objectives.
The successful candidate will have the confidence and technical expertise to challenge design solutions, identify opportunities for improvement, and help deliver outstanding project outcomes across a diverse range of new build, refurbishment and remodelling projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Managing and coordinating design teams and consultant appointments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Leading the development and delivery of design solutions during both pre-construction and construction phases.
- Interpreting client requirements and ensuring designs are robust, coordinated and deliverable.
- Identifying design risks, information gaps and opportunities at an early stage.
- Driving buildability reviews, value engineering initiatives and design efficiencies.
- Championing sustainable design solutions and lower-carbon approaches.
- Managing design programmes, information release schedules and design deliverables.
- Supporting project teams with technical expertise and design guidance.
- Ensuring designs are compliant, coordinated, within budget and aligned to project requirements.
- Working collaboratively with clients, designers, consultants and supply chain partners to achieve successful project outcomes.

As well as exhibiting our company behaviours of being Positive, Professional, Customer Focused, a Team Player and Doing the Right Thing, the successful candidates will have the following:
Essential:
- Proven experience in a Design Management or Construction Design role.
- Experience managing design through all stages of project development and delivery.
- Strong technical understanding of current Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, British Standards and industry best practice.
- Experience working across new build, refurbishment and remodelling projects.
- Knowledge of design development processes including RIBA, BIM and PAS 2038.
- Ability to critically review and challenge design proposals to improve compliance, sustainability, buildability and project outcomes.
- Strong understanding of contractor-led design management and the coordination of multidisciplinary design teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, consultants and project teams.
- Experience using Common Data Environments such as Viewpoint or similar platforms.
- Relevant construction, engineering or design qualification.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Yorkshire to support projects and clients.

- Experience delivering projects within healthcare and education environments is highly desirable.
