About the Company

PSR Solutions are recruiting for a Design Manager to work for a Civils contractor in London.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of major structures projects across London. The Design Manager will take responsibility for managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery, ensuring designs are coordinated, compliant, buildable and delivered in line with programme, budget, quality and health & safety requirements. Working closely with Project Managers, Commercial teams, consultants, subcontractors and clients, you will provide strong technical and design leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design process from pre-construction through to construction and completion.
  • Lead and coordinate design teams, consultants, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • Manage design programmes, deliverables and key design milestones.
  • Ensure designs are fully coordinated, compliant and suitable for construction.
  • Review drawings, specifications and technical information to identify potential issues and opportunities.
  • Manage design reviews, workshops and coordination meetings.
  • Ensure buildability, sequencing, temporary works and construction methodology are considered throughout the design process.
  • Manage RFIs, technical queries, design changes and approvals.
  • Coordinate with structural engineers, architects and specialist subcontractors.
  • Monitor design progress against the overall project programme.
  • Support value engineering and identify opportunities to improve cost, programme and buildability.
  • Ensure design risks are appropriately identified, managed and communicated.
  • Maintain design registers, trackers and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations and project requirements.
  • Work closely with the site team to resolve technical and design issues during construction.
  • Support procurement and subcontractor engagement from a design perspective.
  • Attend client and consultant meetings and provide clear design reporting.
  • Ensure effective handover of design information and as-built documentation.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager within construction or civil engineering.
  • Strong experience working on structural, concrete, steel, demolition or complex construction projects.
  • Experience delivering projects within London is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of structural design, construction methodology and buildability.
  • Experience managing consultants, designers and specialist subcontractors.
  • Strong knowledge of design coordination, technical approvals and design risk management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Relevant degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
  • CSCS.
  • Relevant design or construction management qualification is desirable.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of structural design, construction methodology and buildability.
