Role Description
The Design Manager (North West) will lead and coordinate the design process on construction projects, ensuring that design information is complete, coherent, and delivered to meet programme, budget, and quality requirements. This full-time, on-site role is based in Wigan and involves working closely with internal project teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors. Day-to-day tasks include:

- Managing design deliverables
- Chairing design meetings
- Resolving technical queries
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and client specifications

The Design Manager will oversee design risk management, support value engineering, and contribute to buildability reviews to improve project outcomes. The role also involves:
- Monitoring design progress
- Providing regular reports
- Supporting tender and pre-construction activities where required
Qualifications
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams on construction or infrastructure projects, ideally within the UK market.
- Strong knowledge of construction design processes, building regulations, standards, and relevant health and safety requirements (including CDM Regulations).
- Proficiency in design coordination tools and common data environments (e.g., BIM platforms, document management systems).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead meetings and negotiate effectively.
- Proven ability to manage programmes, design deliverables, and change control while maintaining quality and budget targets.
- Relevant professional qualification in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related discipline; chartered or working towards chartered status is advantageous.
- Experience in the education, healthcare, commercial, or public sector built environment is beneficial.
