Design Manager

ROLE: Design Manager

LOCATION: Southampton, SO53

PAY RATE: £500.00 per day – LTD/PSC, Outside IR35

CONTRACT: Contract 6 Months – ASAP Start

THE ROLE:

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to support a major construction contractor on projects across the Southwest. The successful candidate will be based from the Southampton office, with Exeter also potentially available. Experience working on public-sector construction projects is highly desirable, particularly within education, healthcare or MoJ.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and coordinate the design process from early stages through to construction.
  • Coordinate design information between consultants, contractors and project teams.
  • Review designs to ensure they meet project requirements, programme and quality standards.
  • Identify and manage design risks, changes and technical issues.
  • Work closely with project, commercial and site teams to support project delivery.
  • Monitor design progress and ensure information is available when required on site.
  • Support design reviews, technical meetings and stakeholder coordination.
  • Maintain and manage design documentation and relevant project information.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of design management and design coordination.
  • Experience managing design consultants and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Good understanding of construction design processes and documentation.
  • Experience working closely with project and site teams.
  • Ability to work from the Southampton/Chandler's Ford office.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Previous experience working on public-sector construction projects.
  • Experience within education/schools, healthcare or MoJ projects.
  • Knowledge of SCF (Southern Construction Framework), Procure or P23 frameworks.
  • Previous experience working for a Tier 1/main contractor.
