We are working with a leading specialist contractor looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of major data centre and substation projects across the North East and Scotland.
This is an opportunity to join a business operating at the forefront of one of the UK's busiest construction sectors, working on technically challenging schemes that demand strong coordination, attention to detail and proactive design management.
Projects are currently located in the Teeside and Blythe area, so the role would suit someone based in the North East who is comfortable travelling across the region as projects require.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You will be responsible for managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery, coordinating consultants, reviewing technical information, resolving design issues and ensuring information is released in line with programme requirements. You will work closely with operational teams, clients and the wider supply chain to keep projects moving and minimise risk throughout the construction phase.
We are looking to speak with Design Managers who have experience working for a main contractor or specialist contractor on complex new build projects. Previous exposure to data centres, substations or other major infrastructure projects would be advantageous, although candidates from a wider main contracting background will also be considered.
