Design Manager: Major Infrastructure Programme
We are recruiting an experienced Design Manager for a Tier 1 contractor delivering a long-term infrastructure programme in Cumbria.
Working within a design and build environment, the Design Manager will be responsible for managing external design consultancies and coordinating design with the engineering, construction and commercial teams. The programme includes the upgrade and renewal of existing road, rail, bridge and associated civil infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Manage external design consultancies throughout the project lifecycle
- Coordinate design from initial development through construction and completion
- Ensure designs meet project and construction requirements
- Manage the interface between design consultants, engineering, construction and commercial teams
- Monitor design progress against programme requirements
- Manage design reviews, technical queries, changes and approvals
- Identify and manage design risks
- Ensure technical and quality requirements are met
- Support value engineering and design development
- Maintain commercial awareness throughout the design process

Requirements
- Design Manager experience
- Construction experience is essential
- Experience managing external design consultancies
- Experience taking projects through the full lifecycle from design through to construction and completion
- Understanding of the interface between design and construction
- Commercial awareness
- Major civil engineering or infrastructure experience
- Tier 1 contractor experience would be advantageous
- Candidates from a design consultancy background will also be considered where they have construction and project delivery experience
