Role: Design Engineering Manager-Gas Turbine
Location: Derby/Bristol (Onsite)
Employment type: Full Time Employment/ Permanent
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing and leading the delivery of design and integration activities for aero engine components and assemblies.
- Apply principles of product safety, robust design, systems engineering, DFX and producibility while guiding the team through gated technical reviews and securing technical buy-offs.
- Work closely with integrated project teams, customers, designers, manufacturing teams, and supporting functions to ensure that physical and functional design solutions achieve desired product requirements and attributes such as life, cost, weight, serviceability, safety, and manufacturability.
- Accountable for planning, prioritizing, monitoring, and improving delivery performance, while developing team capability and ensuring adherence to customer operating procedures, engineering standards, and best practices.
- Experience in modelling, drafting, and Model Based Definition across complex core turbomachinery components and sub-assemblies such as compressors, combustion systems, rotative discs, casings, structures, turbine statics, and shafts may be advantageous.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of mechanical design engineers by setting clear objectives, reviewing progress, providing technical guidance, and enabling capability development aligned to project and business needs.
- Own delivery governance for assigned work packages, including planning, resource allocation, risk management, issue escalation, stakeholder communication, and performance tracking against quality, cost, and schedule commitments.
- Drive collaboration across design, analysis, manufacturing, product safety, supply chain, and customer teams to resolve technical dependencies and ensure integrated product maturity.
- Integrate physical design solution at module level and/or with the owners of non-physical data functional such as Air Systems, Oil Systems, aerothermal, Performance, etc.
- On need basis, address the arisings from the fleet and perform root cause investigation to help improve the safety, Reliability, and Availability; Also assess impact on the component assemblies based on changes to the understanding of the engine operating conditions.
- Knowledge of gas turbine components or an understanding of material, thermal, mechanical, and dynamic issues associated with the core turbomachinery components/modules (such as Compressor, combustion, Rotative discs, casings, structures, Turbine Statics, shafts, etc.) may be advantageous.
- Prior Experience of working in the gas Turbine Product, Aviation industry, or within the APQP/PPAP framework (Aerospace Standard AS9145) may be advantageous.
- Deliver Geometrical definitions for engineered product- This may need you to create 3D models, Digital Assemblies, General Arrangements drawings, sections, Models for stress analysis, etc.
- Deliver the manufacturing instructions while complying with customer operating procedures and best practices. This may be done via traditional drawings or Model Based Definitions.
- Interact with Designers, Manufacturing to deliver the FM objectives including producibility.
- Achieve Right First Time and On Time Delivery targets for planned deliverables by establishing strong review mechanisms, tracking KPIs, driving corrective actions, and promoting continual knowledge management, process compliance, and engineering excellence.

- At least 10+ years of working experience on Turbomachinery components like Gas Turbine for Power and/or Aviation industry.
- Experience with CAD and PLM packages (i.e. Siemens UG NX, Teamcenter).
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, managing team performance, driving KPI-based delivery, and building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage stakeholders, communicate priorities clearly, handle escalations effectively, and make balanced decisions across technical, delivery, and people dimensions.
- Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
