Salary Negotiable | Design Manager | London | Office-based: 3-5 days per week | 6-12 month FTC | ASAP start
Do you have strong Design & Build experience within commercial interiors, workplace or fit-out? Are you genuinely proficient in Revit and comfortable working hands-on with technical design information? Can you lead multidisciplinary design coordination from developed design through construction and handover?
The opportunity
This is a fixed-term Design Manager opportunity within an established commercial design and build environment, joining a busy team delivering live projects across London.
You will suit this role if you are comfortable operating at pace, taking ownership and making decisions without needing significant hand-holding. Projects move quickly, multiple stakeholders need coordinating and technical issues need resolving before they become construction problems.
You will work across design, pre-construction, commercial and construction teams, helping turn creative concepts into coordinated, compliant and buildable solutions.
The environment is fast-paced, complex and highly cross-functional. You will need to balance design intent with programme, cost, compliance and practical delivery.
What you will be doing
You will take a leading role in the technical delivery of allocated projects from design development through construction and practical completion.

Your responsibilities will include:
- leading architectural, structural, MEP and specialist design coordination;
- reviewing and producing technical drawing packages and construction information;
- translating concept designs into practical, buildable technical solutions;
- coordinating consultants, contractors, suppliers and internal project teams;
- identifying design risks early and driving issues through to resolution;
- supporting pre-construction and site teams with technical information and design clarification;
- managing RFIs, design changes, shop drawing reviews and construction-stage coordination;
- leading technical reviews and ensuring documentation remains accurate and current;
- supporting planning, Building Regulations and other approval processes;
- ensuring compliance with CDM, Building Regulations and Building Safety requirements;
- supporting completion documentation, as-built information and residual risk records;
- mentoring designers and helping maintain consistent technical standards across the team.
The role requires someone who can stay close to the detail while also seeing the wider project picture.
What you will need
Essential:
- 6+ years' experience in technical design, design management or project delivery;
- direct Design & Build experience;
- strong Revit capability;
- experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams;
- strong technical drawing and construction documentation skills;
- good understanding of construction detailing and buildability;
- experience working through design development, construction and handover;
- working knowledge of CDM 2015, Building Regulations and current UK compliance requirements;
- confidence dealing with clients, consultants, contractors and site teams;
- ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.

A degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture or a closely related discipline is expected.
Desirable experience
Experience with Navisworks, BIM coordination, Autodesk Construction Cloud or another Common Data Environment would be useful, as would exposure to BREEAM, WELL or LEED.
Commercial workplace or office fit-out experience would be particularly relevant.
