A major civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering long-term investment programmes within the UK water sector is seeking an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of AMP8 projects across the South East.
Based from the Chichester area, you'll join an established project team working on a diverse portfolio of clean water and wastewater schemes. This is a contract opportunity suited to someone who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced project environment, managing technical delivery, design coordination and stakeholder engagement from pre-construction through to site delivery.
The Role
Working closely with project managers, operational teams, consultants and client representatives, you will take ownership of the design management function across a range of water infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will be expected to drive design progress, challenge engineering solutions where required and ensure designs are delivered in line with programme, budget and construction requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
