Due to continued growth, Avove is looking to appoint a Mechanical Engineer
Avove is looking to appoint a Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding Design team, supporting the delivery of projects across our United Utilities framework. You will deliver mechanical design solutions across a range of water and wastewater projects, working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will support projects throughout the design lifecycle, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support.
The role will involve developing safe, efficient and buildable mechanical solutions for pumping stations, treatment works, mechanical screening, chemical dosing and sludge handling systems, alongside producing high-quality mechanical design packages to support successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Support the Senior and Principal Mechanical Engineers in delivering high-quality mechanical designs that meet technical standards, programme, budget and quality requirements.
- Develop effective concept and detailed design solutions aligned with project briefs and client needs.
- Deliver mechanical design work across all project stages, from feasibility and preliminary design through to detailed design.
- Prepare engineering designs, calculations, drawings and technical reports, and support tender and bid submissions.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM regulations and the integrated management system.
- Liaise with site teams to resolve technical queries and support construction activities.
- Assist with contract preparation, project planning, programming and project administration, including monitoring resources and delivery.
- Undertake inspections, feasibility studies and surveys as required.

About you
- Ability to produce detailed mechanical designs for simple process plant.
- Familiarity with pump selection and pump calculation software.
- Developing knowledge of clean water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
- Able to carry out site surveys and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Capable of estimating design effort and contributing to cost planning.
- A proactive team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Full UK driving licence required.
