About the Role
Due to continued growth, Avove is seeking an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join our UK Design team, supporting the delivery of projects across our United Utilities framework. In this senior technical role, you will lead the design and delivery of complex water and wastewater non-infrastructure projects, ensuring solutions are safe, innovative, buildable and delivered to the highest technical standards. You will take ownership of projects from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, construction and commissioning, ensuring delivery is on time, within budget and aligned with client requirements.
As a Principal Engineer, you will also provide technical leadership and guidance across the wider Design team, reviewing and approving designs, supporting best practice and mentoring and developing engineers to strengthen capability across the team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical and project delivery of large and complex water and wastewater schemes, including multidisciplinary projects.
- Develop innovative, practical and value-for-money design solutions that meet project briefs and client requirements.
- Lead projects through concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design, maintaining high technical standards throughout.
- Prepare, check and approve engineering designs, calculations, drawings, technical reports, contract documents and cost estimates.
- Provide technical leadership, supervision and mentoring to engineers, technicians, assistant engineers and graduates.
- Work closely with clients, construction and commissioning teams, supply chain partners and other stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
- Support project planning, programming and administration, including monitoring programmes, resources and budgets.
- Ensure designs and project activities comply with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM Regulations and Avove's Integrated Management System.
- Support feasibility studies, site inspections, cost estimating, bid preparation and the delivery of services across other contracts.

About you
- A strong technical background in the design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
- Significant relevant engineering experience, ideally around 10 years within the industry.
- Experience leading the technical delivery of large or complex civil engineering design projects.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, support and develop engineers within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills with a strong client-focused approach.
- Knowledge of relevant engineering software, including AutoCAD, alongside good Microsoft Office skills.
- A strong understanding of health, safety and CDM requirements, with a focus on delivering safe and buildable designs.
