Senior Design Researcher — 14 Month Contract
£375/day | Inside IR35 | London | 4 days onsite
We’re looking for a Senior Design Researcher to join an established innovation hub, working on the development of future products and experiences.
This is a genuinely exploratory research role. You’ll be working on problems where the answer isn’t already defined, helping teams understand customer behaviours, needs and motivations and turning that research into clear insights, opportunities and design direction.
You’ll work closely with designers, engineers and other stakeholders throughout the development process, from early discovery and concept development through to prototyping and evaluation.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading end-to-end qualitative research across discovery, concept development and evaluation
- Planning and conducting research with customers
- Exploring behaviours, needs, motivations and pain points to identify opportunities
- Synthesising research into clear insights, customer needs and design recommendations
- Working closely with designers to translate research into new and improved experiences
- Evaluating early-stage concepts and prototypes
- Facilitating workshops to take teams from customer insight through to concepts and propositions
- Communicating research through clear storytelling that can influence design, product and senior stakeholders

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You should be comfortable taking ownership of research, choosing the right methodologies, interviewing customers, synthesising complex findings and turning them into something designers and product teams can actually use.
Experience working on early-stage concepts, future experiences or propositions where the solution isn't yet defined would be particularly relevant.
Experience with Dovetail or dscout would be useful but isn't essential.
