We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Design Technology Teacher to join a specialist school in Princes Risborough (HP27), supporting students aged 11-18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and a range of additional needs.
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and adaptable Design Technology Teacher to deliver engaging, practical and highly personalised lessons that help students develop their confidence, independence and practical skills.
About The Role
As a Design Technology Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, practical and differentiated lessons that are accessible to students with a range of abilities and additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
As a Design Technology Teacher, You Will
- Plan and deliver engaging and practical DT lessons for students aged 11-18.
- Adapt lessons and resources to meet the individual needs, abilities and learning styles of students.
- Teach a range of practical and creative DT skills, encouraging students to develop independence and confidence.
- Create a safe, structured and engaging practical learning environment.
- Use practical projects and hands-on activities to promote creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking.
- Monitor, assess and record student progress, identifying appropriate next steps.
- Develop personalised learning opportunities for students with SEMH and additional needs.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students and promote positive behaviour.
- Support students to develop transferable skills, including teamwork, communication, organisation and independence.
- Work closely with Teaching Assistants and support staff to ensure consistent and effective provision.
- Contribute to EHCP outcomes and individual learning plans where appropriate.
- Maintain high expectations while recognising and celebrating individual achievements.
- Contribute to school meetings, training, professional development and the wider life of the school.
- Ensure appropriate health and safety procedures are followed during practical lessons.

About You
The successful Design Technology Teacher will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- A relevant qualification or strong subject knowledge in Design Technology.
- Experience teaching DT at secondary level is desirable.
- Experience working with students with SEND, SEMH or additional needs is desirable.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- The ability to differentiate and adapt lessons to meet a range of learning needs.
- A creative, practical and engaging approach to teaching.
- A patient, calm, resilient and compassionate approach.
- The ability to build strong and trusting relationships with students.
- A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and promoting positive outcomes for every learner.
- Strong awareness of health and safety within a practical learning environment.
