Reports to: Head of Life Sales
Location: Head Office - Newton Aycliffe
Role Purpose
The Plan Checker is responsible for the final technical review of kitchen design plans produced by sales designers before they are released into manufacturing. This role acts as the critical quality gate between design and production — catching errors, regulatory non-compliance, and installation issues before they become costly rework, delivery delays, or on-site problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Review completed kitchen design plans for dimensional accuracy, correct cabinet/unit/appliance/sink/tap specification, and consistency with the sales designers final pack
- Check plans against building regulations and relevant standards (e.g. Building Regs, minimum clearances, appliance/ventilation requirements)
- Verify installation feasibility — e.g. door swings, worktop joins, appliance housing sizes, correct qty’s of all products
- Cross-check the plan against the order specification and pricing to ensure what's been designed matches what's been quoted and ordered
- Identify and flag design errors, omissions, or conflicts (e.g. clashing units, incorrect handing, missing end panels)
- Liaise with sales designers to resolve queries and get corrections made before sign-off
- Maintain a checklist/audit trail of checks performed on each plan
- Escalate recurring error patterns to the relevant Sales Manager to inform training needs
- Stay current on relevant building regulations, industry standards, and manufacturer installation guidelines

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong working knowledge of kitchen design principles (ergonomics, workflow, storage planning)
- Practical understanding of kitchen installation — common site issues
- Familiarity with UK building regulations relevant to kitchen installations
- Experience using kitchen CAD/design software (e.g. 20-20, PlanIt, CAD applicable to your product range – Winner Design preferable)
- High attention to detail and comfort working methodically through technical specifications
- Good communication skills — able to give clear, constructive feedback to designers

Desirable
- Previous experience as a kitchen designer
- Background as a kitchen fitter, joiner, installer, or site surveyor
- Knowledge of Life Kitchens/PWS specific product range

- Turnaround time per plan review

Monday - Friday 08:30am - 17:00pm - on-site
