Contract Type - Permanent, Full-time (35 hours)
Working Arrangements/Pattern - Hybrid Working (3 days per week office based)
Working Location - FatFace HQ, Havant, PO9 1QJ
Salary - From £38,000

Role Summary
To work in conjunction with other category designers and buyers to deliver the best FatFace product ranges exceeding our customers’ expectations. Creating commercial yet innovative & unique ranges that deliver the FatFace style, attention to detail and product that is built to last.
We’re particularly looking for someone with experience designing denim, trousers and shorts — confident in these categories and passionate about crafting pieces that balance practicality, durability and signature FatFace style.
Role Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design of garments for all phases and seasons
- Own category ownership in addition to supporting across the department when necessary
- CAD range plans to ensure choice through range and key looks are delivered
- Create design packs and hand over to suppliers, ensuring full understanding for creation of garment samples
- Work across suppliers to build relationships to deliver best product possible
- Ensure fit, silhouette and details deliver FatFace style DNA working alongside garment technologist & buyer to deliver
- Liaise with Buyers on costs/margins to ensure that the range can realistically be bought within given budgets
- Present ranges to team and directors for sign off and adjustments
- Research themes and directions to support Senior team in Design Direction presentations
- Create and present trend packs, mood boards and forecasts to include key items for following seasons in preparation for department strategy & sign off
- Lead and support assistants to their full potential
- Align self to companies social and environmental mission and champion any actions that you can directly impact at all times

Skills and Experience
- Degree or equivalent in Fashion Design or a related subject
- Proven experience at Designer or Junior Designer level within womenswear
- Strong experience designing denim, trousers and shorts, with a portfolio demonstrating commercial yet innovative product development.
- Excellent knowledge of denim construction, garment engineering, fit and pattern awareness.
- Deep understanding of denim washes, finishes, fabrications and laundries, including garment-dye, over-dye, abrasion, distressing and other denim processing techniques.
- Strong knowledge of denim detailing, stitching techniques, trims and authentic product execution.
- Experience developing products directly with suppliers and mills, with overseas travel to India, China and/or Europe for product development and sourcing.
- Excellent fabric knowledge across denim and casual bottoms, including performance, quality, handle and sustainability considerations.
- Strong understanding of fit, silhouette, proportion and consumer requirements across multiple bottoms categories.
- Confident presenting design concepts, trends and product strategies to internal stakeholders and senior leadership teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent research, trend interpretation and commercial awareness.
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Creative, detail-oriented and passionate about product, design and innovation.
- Collaborative team player who is willing to support across categories and contribute positively to the wider Womenswear Design team.
- A true passion for denim and a strong understanding of global denim trends, heritage references, wash innovation and product authenticity is essential.
Role Competencies
- Knowledge of garment construction, treatments, fabrics and sustainable choices
- Good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator)
- Ability to draw garments clearly and accurately
- Understanding of colour stories and levels
- Ability to convey designs from paper to 3D design
- Good Knowledge of Factory processes
- Creative and able to convey vision of Fat Face Brand
- Comprehensive understanding of customer profile, product range & competitors.
- Demonstrate knowledge of trend within the marketplace
- Articulate current and future trends for category
