The Role
As a Desktop Engineer, you will join our Pontefract-based team to keep our end-user technology running smoothly across our offices and warehousing facilities in the UK, Belfast, and the UAE. Working on a fully office-based contract with regular site travel supported by a company vehicle, you will provide essential support, installation, and maintenance across our desktop estate. You will also take ownership of our operational hardware, managing a large fleet of handheld terminals using remote management tools like SureMDM. Working alongside wider Tech teams on key infrastructure projects, you will ensure our colleagues have the reliable tools they need every day, with full support to build your technical skills through structured training platforms like LinkedIn Learning and Thrive, mentoring, and hands-on guidance.
What You'll Take On
- Deliver efficient and reliable technical support across all end-user equipment, ensuring service levels and response times are consistently met.
- Follow established deployment processes to build, configure, and deploy new hardware to colleagues.
- Manage the full hardware lifecycle across end-user equipment - including PCs, Thin Clients, scanners, industrial printers, mobile devices (iOS/tablets), and warehouse Handheld Terminals (HHTs) - handling on-site and remote software configuration, deployment, and secure end-of-life deprovisioning.
- Support IT project work across warehouse and satellite locations, collaborating with internal teams to deliver new technologies seamlessly.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues using logical problem-solving, taking ownership of tickets through our ITSM tooling.
- Identify, categorise, and escalate Major Incidents and P1 issues through the correct technical channels in a timely manner.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
