The Role
The Desktop Engineer II is responsible for ensuring the operations of assigned functions in accordance with the BSMHIT leadership and IT governance. This position is responsible for the analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex problems related to enterprise desktop management. This includes the build and support of associated technologies. The position entails the delivery of all services in a timely, reliable, and cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform tasks related to the recommendation, design, and overall administration of the following technologies:
- Microsoft SCCM
- Flexera AdminStudio
- Windows Desktop Operating Systems and components
- Duties will involve, but are not limited to, the following ancillary technologies:
- Active Directory including Group Policy Management
- Server Hardware Platforms
- Virtualization Platforms
- Complete work on major, complex projects with working/extensive competency
- Assist, as requested, with the evaluation of technical solutions based on requirements, ranging from group to enterprise wide deployments
- Provide Tier 2 support and guidance to IT for all Health System and affiliate entities
- Coordinate with both technical and non-technical staff and vendors on the implementation of complex projects
- Recommend, implement and document corrective solutions and preventative measures
- Document work in the form of policies, standards and knowledge base articles
- Ensure solutions are delivered in adherence with defined standards and policy
- Act as a lead project resource, provide guidance, as needed, to team members, as well as provide training and mentoring on technologies to peers and colleagues
- Work both independently and with various teams across the Mercy Health enterprise
- Perform daily prioritization of work to ensure assigned project and incident SLA requirements are met

Skills and Experience
- Strong competency of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems
- Advanced experience with automated application deployment and management
- Basic skill regarding Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Management
- Functional knowledge of VMware ESX and infrastructure components
- Understanding of PowerShell, network protocols, and SSL certificates
- Basic knowledge of network configurations including, but not limited to, bandwidth, multicasting, and WOL
- Understanding of patch management and antivirus methodologies and best practices
- Experience in medium-sized heterogeneous (10,000+ desktop) environments a plus
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Ability to author technical documents and create procedure manuals
- Experience deploying other applications in a healthcare setting a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
- Ability to conduct research into current and future technologies
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
- Healthcare knowledge/background a plus
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Technical Certifications a plus
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Years of Experience

- College diploma or university degree in computer science, information systems or other industry related curriculum, and/or 4+ years equivalent work experience
- Prior leadership roles and relevant experience
- 3+ years of experience with SCCM and/or similar desktop administration (preferred)
Experienced Preferred
- Ability to develop, manage, mentor and lead a team across multiple platforms and in varying environments
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, lead staff of all levels, and exhibit strong written and verbal communication is essential.
- Communicates tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing, and maintains effective work relations with those encountered.
- Commitment to system integrity, stability, customers and ability to comfortably operate in rapidly growing and changing environments
- Excellent organization skills
- Have the ability to keep up to date with technology as it develops and inform their clients of the potential impact
- Experienced in project management
- Highly self-motivated with attention to detail
- Healthcare knowledge/background including data privacy practices and laws
Additional Details
- Requires on-call duty 24-hrs/day as a part of a rotation schedule for emergency response to critical technical situations requiring immediate attention.
