Brief Description
Desktop Support Engineer – London Gatwick Airport
£30,000 per annum | 24 month + initial fixed term contract, with potential for renewal
On-site at London Gatwick Airport | 5 days on, 2 days off | 07:00–19:00 rotational shifts
Take your desktop support experience into a very different working environment
This isn't a conventional office-based desktop support role.
As a Desktop Support Engineer at London Gatwick Airport, you'll provide hands-on corporate EUC and workplace technology support within one of the UK's busiest and most dynamic working environments.
You'll be supporting the technology used by employees and business teams across the airport environment — resolving incidents at the desk-side, troubleshooting devices and connectivity, managing user access and getting people operational again quickly.
This role supports the corporate workplace IT estate. It does not support passenger-processing, baggage or other specialist airport operational equipment.
We're looking for someone who already has solid experience in Desktop Support, EUC, Workplace Technology or On-site IT Support and is ready to bring that experience into an environment where responsiveness, customer service and technical ownership really matter.
What you'll be doing
Working as part of the on-site support team, you'll take ownership of L1/L1.5 workplace technology incidents and service requests, including:
- Diagnosing and resolving desktop, laptop, peripheral and workplace technology issues.
- Providing hands-on desk-side support to users across the airport's corporate environment.
- Troubleshooting Windows devices, Microsoft 365 applications and common enterprise software.
- Supporting mobile devices across iOS and Android.
- Performing Active Directory user and device administration.
- Diagnosing LAN, Wi-Fi, VPN and general network connectivity issues.
- Installing, replacing, configuring and maintaining end-user devices and peripherals.
- Supporting device builds, deployments, moves, changes and hardware refresh activity.
- Providing basic Smart Hands support for network and infrastructure teams where physical intervention is required on-site.
- Working within customer security, access, hardware warranty and IT service-management procedures.
- Escalating more complex incidents effectively while retaining ownership of the user experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for
This role is designed for an experienced L1/L1.5 EUC or Desktop Support Engineer rather than an entry-level Service Desk position.
You'll Ideally Bring
- 3+ years' hands-on experience in Desktop Support, EUC, Workplace Technology, Field Support or a comparable on-site IT support role.
- Strong troubleshooting capability across Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365.
- Practical experience supporting desktops, laptops, peripherals and mobile devices.
- Experience working with Active Directory.
- A working understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, RDP and wireless networking.
- The ability to diagnose basic LAN/WAN and connectivity issues and identify when specialist escalation is required.
- An understanding of enterprise IT environments, including network and server infrastructure.
- Experience working to defined incident, security and customer-service processes.
- The confidence to deal directly with users and take ownership of technical problems through to resolution or effective escalation.
Just as importantly, you'll be comfortable working in a busy, highly operational environment where priorities can change quickly and IT support needs to be visible, responsive and professional.
