Desktop & Infrastructure Support Engineer – Financial Services

We’re recruiting an experienced Desktop & Infrastructure Support Engineer to join the London IT team of a leading financial services business. This is a broad, hands-on role combining high-quality desktop support with responsibility for the stability, security and performance of the wider IT infrastructure. You’ll act as a senior technical escalation point, taking ownership of complex 2nd and 3rd-line issues and supporting users across all levels of the business.
Responsibilities
- Acting as the escalation point for complex desktop and infrastructure issues
- Supporting Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, Active Directory and Entra ID
- Managing endpoint configuration, software deployment, patching and devices
- Supporting servers, networks, virtual environments, storage and cloud services
- Troubleshooting TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN and Wi-Fi issues
- Monitoring infrastructure performance, availability and security
- Supporting backup, recovery, antivirus and business continuity
- Managing user access, permissions and security controls
- Owning incidents through to resolution and carrying out root-cause analysis
- Supporting infrastructure changes, upgrades and improvement projects
- Working with third-party technology suppliers and partners

What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience as a Desktop & Infrastructure Engineer, 3rd Line Support Engineer or similar
- Broad Microsoft desktop, server and cloud knowledge
- Strong Windows, Microsoft 365, Active Directory and Entra ID experience
- Good networking knowledge across TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs and Wi-Fi
- Experience with endpoint management, deployment and patching tools
- Knowledge of virtualisation, backup, monitoring and disaster recovery
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex issues independently
- Strong understanding of information security and access management
- Confident communication skills with the ability to support senior stakeholders

Previous experience within investment banking, financial services or another regulated environment would be highly desirable, as would PowerShell experience and relevant Microsoft, cloud, networking or IT service management qualifications.
This would suit an experienced engineer who enjoys variety, takes ownership and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, business-critical environment.
