Sellick Partnership are currently partnered with a public sector organisation in Hereford, who are seeking an experienced Desktop Support Engineer to join their established IT support team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional to join a large and complex enterprise IT environment, supporting over 6,000 users across more than 100 sites. The role will provide exposure to a broad range of technologies, including Microsoft 365, Windows, Active Directory, Exchange, networking, endpoint management, desktop hardware, and mobile devices.
As the Desktop Support Engineer, you will:
- Provide professional 2nd and 3rd line technical support to users across a large and diverse customer base.
- Take ownership of incidents, problems, and service requests, prioritising and managing your own workload to ensure issues are resolved within agreed SLA timescales.
- Provide technical support remotely and through planned site visits across multiple customer locations.
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex hardware, software, connectivity, and application issues.
- Support the installation, configuration, maintenance, replacement, and upgrade of desktop hardware, software, and end-user devices.
- Support Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, and other enterprise cloud technologies.
- Administer user accounts, network access, and business applications using technologies including Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange.
- Carry out desktop imaging, software deployment, patching, endpoint security, and device management activities.
- Configure, commission, and support smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices running Android and iOS.
- Provide support for LAN, TCP/IP networking, server, and internet connectivity issues where required.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, changes, assets, licences, and technical work undertaken.
- Monitor and investigate recurring faults, identifying trends and implementing longer-term solutions to reduce repeat incidents.
- Test and evaluate hardware and software solutions prior to deployment.
- Liaise with internal IT teams, customers, suppliers, and external support agencies to coordinate effective resolution of technical issues.
- Provide technical input into IT projects and undertake project-related tasks as required.
- Maintain technical documentation, knowledge base information, and accurate hardware and software inventories.
- Carry out routine housekeeping, security fixes, and maintenance across the desktop environment.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to users, helping non-technical colleagues make effective use of IT systems and equipment.
- Support office moves, new accommodation setups, and the provisioning of IT equipment where required.
- Contribute to the continual improvement of IT support services, processes, and technical standards.
- Represent the organisation professionally when working independently at customer sites.
- Participate in an out-of-hours support rota where required.

What you will need experience in for the Desktop Support Engineer role:
- Proven experience working in a 2nd line, 3rd line, or enterprise-level IT support environment.
- Strong technical knowledge across Microsoft desktop technologies, including Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft 365.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting a broad range of desktop hardware, applications, and end-user devices.
- Good working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and network account administration.
- Experience supporting Microsoft OneDrive and enterprise cloud technologies.
- Knowledge of LAN environments, TCP/IP networking, and common connectivity issues.
- Experience with endpoint management, desktop imaging, software deployment, and patch management technologies.
- Experience using Microsoft Endpoint Manager / Intune and/or SCCM would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of endpoint security, including device encryption, data loss prevention, and security patching.
- Experience configuring, deploying, and supporting mobile devices, including Android and iOS.
- Good working knowledge of remote support technologies such as RDP, VPN, and Terminal Services.
- Knowledge of server, backup, and storage environments, including Active Directory services.
- Experience using IT Service Management or Service Desk systems to log, manage, and track incidents, requests, and changes.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with the ability to analyse complex technical problems and identify appropriate solutions.
- Ability to recognise recurring issues and use investigation and research to identify longer-term resolutions.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and manage your own workload effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a technical support environment.
- Ability to work calmly and professionally under pressure and in complex or demanding environments.
- Relevant IT qualifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft certifications, or equivalent practical experience would be advantageous.
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management experience would be advantageous.
- Experience within a public sector, healthcare, education, or similarly complex environment would be beneficial.
- A full driving licence and willingness to travel between customer sites is required.

What the successful Desktop Support Engineer will receive:
- Initial 3-month contract with a high likelihood of extension to 6-months.
- Rate of £20+ per hour via umbrella.
- Fully on-site working, with agile working between customer sites.
- Mileage paid at 55p per mile.
- On-site parking costs covered.
