Despatch Operative Role
Despatch Operative role is to ensure the efficient, accurate, and timely preparation and dispatch of customer orders, maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer service while supporting operational performance and delivery targets.
Responsibilities:
- Order Picking & Dispatch Preparation
- Retrieve items: Locate and move pallet and pipe finished products from storage racking or stacking bays, using a forklift.
- Secure loads: Ensure all outbound items are correctly stacked, shrink-wrapped, and labelled for secure transit.
- Verify documentation: Cross-reference physical stock against picking lists, dispatch paperwork, and delivery notes to prevent discrepancies.

Vehicle Loading & Unloading
- Load trailers: Safely and efficiently load distribution lorries, curtainsiders using correct sequencing and weight distribution.
- Check outgoing transport: Ensure transport vehicles are in a suitable condition to receive cargo before loading begins.

Equipment, Health & Safety
- Pre-shift checks: Perform daily inspections on forklift machinery for mechanical faults, fuel/battery levels, and safety features.
- Maintain safety: Strictly adhere to site speed limits, designated pedestrian walkways, and safe manual handling guidelines.
- Housekeeping: Keep dispatch lanes, loading bays, and packing areas free of debris, broken pallets, and hazards.

Essential Criteria
- A valid, accredited counterbalance forklift truck certification
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience operating forklifts within a fast-moving logistics, manufacturing, or dispatch hub.
- High attention to detail, strong time-management skills to meet tight courier collection times, and excellent communication.
