Become a Detective Constable at Derbyshire Constabulary

Are you prepared to challenge assumptions? Do you question the obvious and dig deeper when others stop?

If the answer is yes, a career as a Detective with Derbyshire Constabulary could be your calling.

As a police detective, the most serious and complex crimes land on your desk. You’ll play a vital role in seeking truth, uncovering evidence, protecting the vulnerable and bringing justice to those affected by crime. It’s a role that demands resilience, curiosity and the ability to see beyond the surface.

Every case is different — each shaped by the quality of the evidence, the state of the victims, and your ability to engage, empathise and influence. Investigations can be lengthy and challenging, requiring emotional intelligence, patience, and determination to see each case through to the very end.

There is no room for assumption. Your enquiries are driven by facts, diligent evidence gathering, and an unwavering focus on the truth. You’ll work at the heart of some of society’s most challenging issues — from child exploitation and sexual assault to serious organised crime and murder. Your motivation: protecting victims from future harm.

You'll start your training as a Police Constable learning the very foundations of policing. This is not a typical job. It’s a unique role with ever-changing demands. You’ll need to think on your feet, adapt quickly and stay focused under pressure. But it’s also a role that brings immense pride, purpose and moments that shape the rest of your life. From saving lives to supporting the vulnerable, the work you do matters.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
