Role summary

To embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle by designing, developing, and maintaining automated test software using modern software engineering practices. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining automated tests for user interfaces (UI), APIs, and backend services and processes, as well as reusable test frameworks and tooling. Working collaboratively with developers, product teams, and other stakeholders, the Developer in Test identifies defects early, promotes continuous quality, and helps deliver reliable, secure, and high-quality software.

Skills/Responsibilities

  • Strong proficiency in C# and .NET (preferably.NET 6/10)
  • Good working knowledge of TypeScript
  • Experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks using: xUnit or similar, MS Test Runner, Playwright (.NET), Appium
  • Experience testing applications built with: Blazor (or React/Angular), NET MAU, Minimal APIs, HTML & CSS-based web applications
  • Designing scalable, maintainable UI and API automation frameworks
  • Implementing:
    • Page Object Model (POM) or Screenplay pattern
    • Reusable test utilities and abstractions
    • Parallel test execution strategies
    • API test automation including: REST API validation, Authentication handling (JWT, OAuth where applicable), Contract and integration testing approaches, Cross-browser and cross-device testing strategy
  • Strong understanding of:
    • SOLID principles
    • Testability and design-for-test
  • Experience with:
    • CI/CD pipeline integration
    • Test reporting and quality gates
    • Git-based workflows

Experience

  • A software engineer first, with a testing specialism
  • Comfortable working across UI, API, mobile, and cloud layers
  • Capable of designing maintainable automation frameworks
  • Able to operate independently while contributing to team-level quality strategy
  • Familiar with cloud-native and event-driven architectures hosted on AWS
  • Experience contributing to test architecture decisions
  • Familiarity with contract testing approaches
  • Knowledge of containerisation concepts (Docker)
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code concepts
  • Experience mentoring junior testers
