Ref: IP398

At Orwell, our values of People-focused, Ambitious, Collaborative and Effective (PACE) are at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Development Accountant to join our Finance team and support the continued success of Orwell Homes.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems, improving processes and building strong relationships across an organisation. You'll play a key role in providing accurate financial information that supports decision-making, alongside managing housing development accounting, financial reporting and compliance activities.

What you'll be doing

As Development Accountant, you will:

  • Prepare accurate and timely management accounts for Orwell Homes Limited.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
  • Manage housing development accounting, including monthly Work in Progress (WIP) and Assets Under Construction (AUC) schedules.
  • Maintain housing stock balances, ensuring additions, disposals, component accounting and staircasing transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Provide financial support and guidance to the Development team, helping them understand and manage budgets effectively.
  • Prepare VAT and CIS returns and undertake balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support systems improvement projects, ensuring finance requirements are considered and new solutions deliver business value.
  • Manage corporate credit cards, Volopa cards and petty cash processes, including associated journals and reconciliations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the Finance team.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working within a finance environment.
  • Possesses strong bookkeeping and accounting knowledge.
  • Is confident using Excel and financial systems.
  • Produces accurate work with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Can build positive working relationships with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Takes ownership, works collaboratively and looks for opportunities to improve processes and services.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
