Chef Manager

University Campus | Greenwich | Full Time | 40 Hours per Week

Lead a Thriving University Catering Operation in Greenwich

We're looking for an experienced Chef Manager to lead one of our busy catering operations at a university campus in Greenwich. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate food professional who enjoys delivering exceptional food, leading high-performing teams, and creating outstanding customer experiences in a fast-paced environment.

You'll oversee the day-to-day operation of the kitchen and catering outlets, ensuring an innovative and diverse food offer while maintaining the highest standards of quality, food safety, commercial performance, and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and manage the catering operation, delivering exceptional food and service across retail, hospitality, and campus events.
  • Create a fresh, innovative, and seasonal food offer that meets the needs of a diverse university community.
  • Ensure all food is prepared and served to agreed specifications, quality standards, and food safety requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with university stakeholders and provide regular operational and performance updates.
  • Manage budgets, food costs, labor, and purchasing compliance to achieve financial targets.
  • Monitor stock levels and minimize food waste through effective planning and controls.
  • Identify opportunities to grow sales, improve customer satisfaction, and enhance the campus food offer.
  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop your team to build a positive and high-performing culture.
  • Plan staffing levels, manage rotas, and maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, HACCP, allergen legislation, and company policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement through customer feedback, student surveys, and operational reviews.

About You

You'll be an experienced catering leader with a passion for food and developing people.

You'll Have

  • Previous experience as a Chef Manager, Head Chef, or Kitchen Manager in a high-volume catering environment.
  • A minimum of two years' catering management experience.
  • Experience within higher education, contract catering, or hospitality is desirable.
  • NVQ Level 2 Professional Cookery or City & Guilds 706/1 & 706/2 (or equivalent).
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate (minimum).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and KPIs.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and catering management systems.
  • A customer-focused mindset with a passion for delivering exceptional food and service.
