Fragrance Development Chemist

Location: Brixworth, Northamptonshire

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Job Type: Full-time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fragrance Development Chemist to join an innovative R&D team within a global fragrance business.

This role will suit a Chemistry or Cosmetic Science graduate with laboratory experience who is looking to develop their career within fragrance, product development and applied research. You will work on a variety of projects focused on understanding fragrance ingredients, developing new technologies and evaluating fragrance performance across different product categories.

The Role

As part of the R&D team, you will contribute to the development of fragrance-related technologies and support a range of technical projects from laboratory investigation through to reporting and communication of findings.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the development of new and innovative fragrance-related technologies.
  • Investigating the properties and interactions of perfumes and fragrance ingredients across a range of product categories.
  • Developing and evaluating new methods for testing fragrances and their performance in-use.
  • Conducting laboratory-based test studies using fragrances and/or raw materials.
  • Analysing and interpreting test results and communicating findings to relevant project teams.
  • Preparing technical reports and presentations based on experimental findings and project learnings.
  • Providing technical support on fragrance stability, suitability and performance.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across different areas of the business on specific technical projects.
  • Contributing to wider R&D activities and supporting the team as required.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science or a related scientific discipline.
  • Ideally, 3+ years' experience within a flavour, fragrance, cosmetics or related technical environment.
  • Previous experience working within a laboratory environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to investigations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload.
  • The confidence to take initiative and work independently.
  • The ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
