Development Engineer – Residential Housebuilding

£65,000–£75,000 + package | Permanent | Housebuilding

We’re working with an established housebuilder who are looking to appoint a Development Engineer to support the delivery and feasibility of residential developments.

This is a role for an engineer who understands that successful housing developments require more than just good technical design. You’ll be involved in understanding whether developments are technically feasible, commercially sensible, capable of achieving planning requirements and, ultimately, buildable.

The successful candidate must have experience within residential development, housebuilding and associated infrastructure. This is essential to the role.

The position would suit someone who has developed a strong understanding of the wider residential development process and can bring together engineering, feasibility, planning, cost and construction considerations.

What the role entails

  • Providing engineering input across residential developments from initial feasibility through to construction.
  • Reviewing potential sites and identifying engineering constraints, opportunities, risks and abnormal costs.
  • Assessing the technical feasibility of developments, including roads, drainage, levels, earthworks and utilities.
  • Reviewing site layouts, technical reports, surveys and engineering proposals to ensure they work as part of the wider development.
  • Working closely with planning, development, commercial and construction teams to ensure engineering requirements are considered from the outset.
  • Managing and coordinating external engineering and technical consultants, including briefing, reviewing and challenging their work where required.
  • Liaising with planners, local authorities, highways, drainage authorities and utility providers to resolve technical matters.
  • Ensuring proposed designs are commercially sensible, practical and capable of being delivered on site.
  • Identifying engineering issues that could impact development cost, programme or buildability and helping to develop solutions.
  • Supporting land appraisals, feasibility studies and development proposals with engineering advice.
  • Supporting the transition from planning and design into construction and providing technical input where engineering issues arise on site.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
