£27,274 to £34,811 per annum (in accordance with the Progression Matrix - dependent on experience and competencies)
Plus Essential User Car Allowance
37 hours per week
We are looking for two enthusiastic individuals to join our Development Management Team as a Trainee/Graduate Development Management Officers. You will preferably have planning control knowledge, and experience of development management. However, similar experience in other fields, or demonstration of transferrable skills, will be considered.
On-the-job mentoring and training will be given to the successful trainee. You should have at least A Level or equivalent qualification at entry level, but you will be required to hold, or be working towards, a Planning, or related degree, for the higher levels of this post.
The Council will support the successful candidate to gain the required qualifications (subject to contractual provisions).
As part of the Development Management Team, your work will involve the processing of minor, householder and other planning applications. The workload will change commensurate to experience, but will include offering advice and assistance to prospective applicants and the public in general, the preparation of reports to the Council’s Planning and Development Board and defending the Council’s decisions through the planning appeal system. The role is varied and rewarding. You will be working with a highly motivated, professional team, in an attractive semi-rural area that is the subject of strong development pressures for a wide range of types of development. The role is a perfect start for someone wanting to pursue a career in Planning.

Strong communication and organisational skills are essential to this post. You should be able to demonstrate sound experience with dealing with difficult people, investigatory and negotiating skills, and the ability to plan your workload and work to deadlines. Good information technology skills will be a strong advantage.
The post requires you to hold a full valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle. Out of hours working may be required occasionally.
