Development Manager – Visualfiles required

Location: Scotland – hybrid, minimum 2 days per week in the office

Salary: £70,000–£75,000

Team: circa. 7 developers and technical specialists

We're recruiting an experienced Development Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary development team responsible for business-critical applications and services within a major global professional services organisation.

This is a genuine blend of people leadership, delivery management, and technical oversight. Approximately 60–70% of the role is focused on leadership and delivery, with the remaining 30–40% providing technical involvement and direction. The team works across Visualfiles/Everyfile and.NET solutions, alongside a growing programme of automation, process improvement, and AI-enabled initiatives.

The role

You'll lead a team of around seven developers and technical specialists, with responsibility for both their development and the successful delivery of multiple concurrent workstreams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, coaching, and developing a multi-disciplinary software development team.
  • Managing delivery across projects, enhancements, and BAU/production support.
  • Prioritising competing workstreams and managing delivery risks and dependencies.
  • Providing technical direction and supporting complex technical decisions.
  • Overseeing Visualfiles/Everyfile and.NET-related development activity.
  • Managing releases, testing, governance, and change controls.
  • Driving improvements across development processes, tooling, and ways of working.
  • Supporting automation, workflow optimisation, and AI-related initiatives.
  • Working closely with technology and business stakeholders to understand priorities and communicate delivery progress.
  • Managing relationships with relevant third-party suppliers and development partners.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for

The core requirement is someone who can lead a software development team and deliver effectively across multiple competing priorities. You'll ideally demonstrate:

  • Previous software development team leadership or management experience.
  • Strong delivery/project management capability.
  • Experience balancing project work with BAU and production support.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent development workstreams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Enough technical credibility to challenge, guide, and support experienced developers.

Visualfiles experience is highly desirable and will be particularly attractive, but it isn't an absolute requirement for an otherwise strong Development Manager. Exposure to the following would also be useful:

  • Visualfiles / Everyfile. -.NET / C# development environments.
  • Case or matter management systems.
  • Legal, professional services, or another regulated environment.
  • Automation and process improvement.
  • AI-enabled development initiatives.

The opportunity

You'll be joining at an interesting point for the development function, with a combination of established business-critical systems and newer initiatives around automation, process improvement, and AI.

This isn't purely a hands-off management role. You'll need enough technical understanding to provide direction, support difficult decisions, and engage credibly with developers, while your primary responsibility remains leading the team and ensuring work gets delivered.

The role is a replacement for an established Development Manager position and is considered an important appointment within the wider technology function.

Working arrangements

The role is based in Scotland, with a minimum of two days per week in the office and the remainder available for home working.

Salary: £70,000–£75,000. There may be scope to consider a particularly strong candidate above this level, subject to additional approval.

If you're currently a Development Manager, Software Development Manager, Technical Development Manager, or Development Team Lead with strong people and delivery experience — particularly if you have worked with Visualfiles — we'd be interested in speaking with you.
