Job Title: Development & Test Engineer – Electrical & Electronic Systems
Location: Rugeley
Salary: £DOE
We are looking for a Development & Test Engineer to join a dedicated Engineering team supporting the development, evaluation, pre-production and validation of electrical, electronic and electromechanical systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to broaden their technical knowledge and gain hands-on experience across system development, electronic design, laboratory testing, verification and qualification. You will work closely with experienced engineers and project teams, contributing to a diverse range of activities from test equipment and circuit development through to product testing, commissioning and trials.
The Role
Reporting to the Development Lead Engineer, you will support the Engineering and Project functions in developing and testing electrical, electronic and electromechanical systems and delivering solutions against project objectives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing system test suites and test equipment.
- Supporting and conducting development and qualification testing.
- Undertaking schematic and design capture.
- Supporting component selection, technical advice and design reviews.
- Carrying out laboratory and product testing.
- Supporting verification and qualification test programmes, including EMC, shock, vibration and climatic testing.
- Designing and assembling test boxes and circuits, including occasional soldering and wiring.
- Producing technical documentation, specifications, reports and presentations.
- Supporting equipment installation, commissioning and trials activities.
- Working collaboratively with project and engineering teams to resolve technical issues and develop solutions.
- Attending internal and external meetings with engineering, project and customer stakeholders.
- Providing occasional support at UK and overseas trials or commissioning activities.

About You
We’re looking for an adaptable and hands-on engineer who enjoys working across different areas of engineering and is keen to develop their technical skillset.
- HNC, HND, BTEC or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering experience.
- Experience working with low-voltage electrical/electronic equipment (<1000V) in a live testing environment.
- A good understanding of safe working practices and Health & Safety requirements.
- Experience or knowledge of electrical/electronic system development and testing.
- Knowledge of analogue and digital electronics would be advantageous.
- Some programming or knowledge of software methodologies would be desirable.
- Experience supporting verification, validation or qualification testing would be beneficial.
- Good technical documentation and report-writing skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering and project stakeholders.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
- A proactive approach, with the initiative to take ownership and identify improvements.
- A flexible, practical approach and willingness to get involved across a broad range of engineering activities.
