Trading Underwriter – North West (Home based contract)

Salary: up to £80,000 + benefits

Our client is a well-established and growing Managing General Agent (MGA), known for its entrepreneurial culture and strong track record of profitable underwriting. As part of continued expansion, they are looking to appoint a Trading Underwriter to lead and develop their presence across the North West.

The Role

This is a genuine opportunity to take ownership of a regional book of business, working closely with brokers to identify, price and win profitable new business while retaining and developing existing relationships. You will have real autonomy within your authority, direct input into appetite and pricing, and a clear path to grow your portfolio.

  • Underwrite new business and renewals within agreed authority levels, balancing growth with underwriting discipline
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with broker partners across the North West
  • Identify new business opportunities and actively grow the regional portfolio
  • Provide brokers with a responsive, technically sound underwriting service
  • Work closely with senior underwriting and pricing colleagues on referrals, terms and appetite
  • Represent the business at broker meetings, events and on trading visits across the patch

About You

  • Proven underwriting experience, ideally gained within an MGA, insurer or Lloyd's market environment
  • Essential: an existing network of broker relationships across the North West – you'll be expected to trade on these from day one
  • Strong technical underwriting and pricing skills
  • Commercially minded, with a track record of growing profitable business
  • Confident communicator, comfortable building relationships face-to-face and building trust with trading partners
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously while remaining a strong team player
