Description

The HP Security Lab is looking to add your talent and experience as a Security Researcher to our team working on endpoint security, taking both a ‘silicon to cloud’ and a ‘factory to end of life’ approach to raising the bar in device security architecture, and manageability at cloud scale.

We have a position open to join our highly collaborative and experienced team, where you’ll work on technical challenges from co-designing hardware and firmware for cyber resilience and enhanced supply chain security, through to designing distributed systems security across cloud, edge, and endpoint devices. You’ll also collaborate with business R&D teams to ensure business impact drives our development strategy.

If you have solid technical cyber security research or advanced engineering experience and a strong interest in helping innovate and lead the industry in the field of endpoint security, we want to hear from you.

With over 20 years of research in computer and systems security, the HP Security Lab innovates in HP products and solutions, collaborates with academia, and creates and leads industry standards. We are uniquely positioned as an industrial research Lab at the intersection of academic and business-focused research innovation, partnering across the industry for greater impact, and understanding customers’ real-world challenges.

Join us in our office in the heart of the bustling Bristol city centre, within walking distance from the old town cafes and restaurants, in the middle of the city’s thriving startup and academic tech ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Developing new security designs and architectures
  • Building prototypes to de-risk and show feasibility of ideas
  • Writing invention disclosures to protect ideas, technical reports and papers
  • Validating concepts, design, and their use cases with end-users and business partners
  • Working in a fast-paced environment that iterates and evolves rapidly

Requirements

  • A Doctoral, Master’s, or possibly a Bachelor’s university degree in the relevant topics, and a number of industrial experience with demonstrated achievements
  • Experience with computer systems, hardware and firmware technologies (x86, ARM, UEFI, PCIe, DMA, etc.)
  • Strong Engineering skills, including but not limited to programming, software, architecture and design
  • Experience in endpoint security including but not limited to architectures and concepts such as access control, zero trust, antimalware, hardware isolation, virtualisation
  • An ability to convey technical knowledge to both technical experts and non-technical teams alike
  • Commercial awareness as to the value of security features, and ability to connect into the company strategy
  • Creativity, initiative, and good written and verbal communication skills

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
