About Octric Semiconductor

Octric Semiconductor is a new name in the compound semiconductor foundry space. Its devices are used in mission‑critical defence and commercial applications.

For over 25 years, we have delivered more than 1.5 billion devices shipped from our site to date.

Octric has ambitious plans to grow the company and expand with new products and applications, supported by a 10‑year investment plan. Following significant investment from the UK Ministry of Defence, we now have a bright new path ahead. As part of an emerging semiconductor cluster in the northeast, we are focused on developing advanced technology for the next generation of semiconductors. We are looking to fill a number of exciting roles across device design, innovation, manufacturing, and reliability.

Located in Newton Aycliffe, UK, we occupy a 10,000 m² purpose‑built Class 100 manufacturing facility fully equipped to produce state‑of‑the‑art compound semiconductor products.

Job Title

Device characterization and compact device modelling of microwave GaN and GaAs device technology for Process Design Kits.


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Perform & direct RF characterization for the development and validation of device models and to support the device engineering activities
  • Develop compact models of compound semiconductor device technology for MMIC Process Design Kits (PDKs)
  • Provide customer support on PDKs.
  • Keep abreast of latest device characterisation and modelling techniques to ensure our PDKs are competitive and customer design experience productive.
  • Provide device assessment capability to support new process development

Main Tasks

  • Characterization of device performance including DC, pulsed I-V, noise, small & large-signal microwave performance
  • Generation of small and large-signal device and passive component models
  • Contribute to the development of process PDKs
  • Interact with designers to understand requirements, provide support and receive feedback
  • Provision of technical reports and documentation
  • Support development projects and operations staff with device characterisation expertise

Experience

  • DC and RF/microwave semiconductor device characterisation
  • Programming, especially in a test environment

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of RF/microwave device physics
  • Proficient at RF/microwave test
  • In depth understanding of small and large-signal circuit theory and device equivalent circuits.
  • Appreciation of compact device modelling
  • Proficient in a programming language

Personal Qualities

  • Responsive to team requirements and to demanding timescales
  • A self-starter with good initiative
  • Keen to learn

Education / Qualifications

  • BEng, BSc in Electronic Engineering, Physics or related subject
  • Must be a UK National and be willing to be security cleared
