Devices & IoT Field Engineering Manager
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Devices & IoT Field Engineering Manager based in United Kingdom.
This is a leadership opportunity for a technologist passionate about Linux, embedded systems, and connected devices.
You will lead a regional team of Field Engineers supporting customers through presales, solution architecture, and professional services.
The role combines hands-on technical expertise with people management, customer engagement, and strategic thinking.
You will help organizations design and deliver secure, durable solutions for mission-critical connected devices and edge environments.
You will coach engineers, strengthen engineering practices, and contribute valuable market insight to product and engineering teams.
The position operates in a globally distributed environment, collaborating across regions, customers, partners, and technical teams.
It is well suited to an experienced Linux professional who enjoys fast-paced challenges and turning complex technology into measurable business value.
Accountabilities
- Lead, develop, and support a team of Field Engineers ranging from graduate to senior level, with responsibility for presales and professional services activities.
- Set team objectives, plan priorities, and drive progress against agreed goals, projects, and business commitments.
- Partner with leadership to shape team strategy, execution, and organizational priorities.
- Champion engineering excellence, disciplined processes, and effective organizational practices across the team.
- Coach and mentor engineers, providing regular feedback and supporting technical and career development.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers, helping them solve complex problems and understand the value of modern Linux and IoT technologies.
- Represent the team and its products to customers, partners, stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Monitor team health indicators and continuously improve team effectiveness, collaboration, and performance.
- Provide market and customer feedback to Product and Engineering teams, helping influence future product direction.
- Work primarily within a single major time zone while collaborating effectively with globally distributed teams.
- Support international travel for company events and customer engagements as required.

Requirements
- Strong academic background, with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or a compelling alternative professional background.
- Extensive experience with embedded Linux, including Yocto or comparable embedded Linux technologies.
- Strong Linux expertise, with experience in Debian or Ubuntu considered an advantage.
- Previous experience managing or leading a small engineering or technical team.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with customers in technical, consulting, presales, professional services, or similar environments.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts and clearly communicate the business benefits of technology.
- Strong understanding of connected devices, IoT, edge computing, and the technical challenges associated with building secure and reliable device fleets.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, adaptability, accountability, and a collaborative mindset.
- Results-oriented approach with a strong personal drive to meet commitments and deliver outcomes.
- Ability to learn quickly and remain effective in a rapidly changing technology environment.
- Experience with RTOS technologies is desirable.
- Additional programming or spoken-language skills are a plus.
- Previous experience working in remote-first, diverse, and distributed organizations is advantageous.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally approximately twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks, as well as occasional customer or industry engagements.
