DevOps & WordPress/PHP Engineer

Remote – UK Based
£32,000 + performance-related bonus
Full-time, permanent

We’re looking for a DevOps & WordPress/PHP Engineer to join our UK-based software engineering team.

This is a mixed technical role combining Azure infrastructure and DevOps responsibilities approximately two days per week, with WordPress, PHP, and JavaScript development approximately three days per week.

You’ll work remotely as part of our UK team, managing and improving the infrastructure behind our applications while also contributing directly to WordPress and PHP development.

The role

DevOps & Azure – approximately 2 days per week

You’ll be responsible for supporting and improving our cloud infrastructure and deployment processes, including:

  • Managing and maintaining Microsoft Azure environments
  • Building, running, and troubleshooting Docker-based applications
  • Creating and maintaining Dockerfiles and Docker Compose configurations
  • Managing CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
  • Supporting containerised development, staging, and production environments
  • Managing application hosting, networking, and cloud infrastructure
  • Monitoring application and infrastructure health
  • Troubleshooting deployment, hosting, and performance issues
  • Supporting security, patching, backups, and disaster recovery
  • Managing environment configuration and secrets
  • Supporting infrastructure-as-code and configuration management
  • Working with developers to improve reliability, deployment processes, and developer experience

WordPress & Software Engineering – approximately 3 days per week

You’ll contribute to the development and maintenance of WordPress websites and related applications, including:

  • WordPress theme and plugin development
  • PHP development
  • JavaScript development
  • HTML and CSS
  • WordPress hooks, filters, and APIs
  • Custom post types, taxonomies, and Gutenberg/block development
  • Integrating third-party APIs and services
  • Troubleshooting WordPress issues
  • Performance optimisation
  • Security and maintenance
  • SQL/database work
  • Git-based development workflows

You’ll work across existing applications as well as new development, implementing features, resolving issues, and improving the quality and maintainability of our platforms.

Essential experience

You should have practical commercial experience across both software development and DevOps.

We’re looking for experience with:

  • JavaScript
  • MySQL or MariaDB
  • Nginx or Apache
  • Application deployment and troubleshooting
  • Monitoring and logging
  • Web and cloud security fundamentals

You should be comfortable using the command line, diagnosing infrastructure issues, and understanding how an application moves from source code through CI/CD into a production environment.

You do not need to be an expert in every technology, but you should be comfortable working across both infrastructure and application code.

Location and security requirements

This is a fully remote role, but applicants must be based in the UK and have the right to work in the UK.

Our work includes projects for UK public-sector organisations. The successful applicant will be required to complete a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

Salary

£32,000 base salary, plus performance-related bonuses.

You’ll join a UK engineering team working across cloud infrastructure, containerisation, DevOps, WordPress, and software engineering, with scope to take increasing responsibility for the reliability and operation of the platforms we deliver.
