About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Digital Services team. This pivotal role involves leading the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of our digital applications and infrastructure. As part of our transition from a third-party DevOps model to an in-house capability, you will have the opportunity to shape and influence the future digital landscape of Government Digital & Data. Your expertise will ensure our systems are secure, resilient, and aligned with the Government's Digital Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will drive continuous improvement in deployment pipelines, monitoring, and observability, supporting the agency’s commitment to delivering high-quality digital services to the public and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in DevOps practices within a large enterprise environment, particularly with Microsoft Azure. A strong background in infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud architecture is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. Security clearance or a commitment to obtaining one within the first six months of employment is required. Desirable qualifications include experience with Terraform, PowerShell automation, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and application development using C#/.NET.

Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on Microsoft Azure cloud services, ensuring optimal configuration and security.
- Design, develop, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Bicep and other tools to automate infrastructure deployment.
- Build and enhance Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Azure DevOps or TFS to streamline application releases.
- Monitor, analyze, and improve system performance, stability, and security across production and non-production environments.
- Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and implement service improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Establish and uphold DevOps standards, including deployment patterns, observability practices, and runbook documentation.
- Support delivery teams by sharing best practices, mentoring junior engineers, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Produce clear, comprehensive documentation aligned with Digital Services standards for all processes and configurations.
- Contribute to technical planning, roadmap development, and estimation activities to support project delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable digital services.
