DevOps Engineer
Reading | Hybrid | Permanent
Build the infrastructure behind a mission-critical software platform.
We're looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to take ownership of the delivery infrastructure supporting a sophisticated software product used in demanding operational environments. You'll play a key role in ensuring software is built, tested and deployed efficiently through highly automated, reliable and scalable delivery pipelines.
Working closely with software engineers, platform specialists and test teams, you'll help drive continuous improvement across CI/CD, infrastructure automation and deployment processes while enabling fast, repeatable and dependable software releases.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to automate software build, testing and release processes.
- Develop and improve deployment and upgrade automation using Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Build and manage development, integration and pre-production environments.
- Automate environment provisioning to ensure consistency and repeatability.
- Create and maintain monitoring, health checks and deployment reporting across multiple environments.
- Develop tooling and documentation that enables engineering teams to deploy and manage software independently.
- Work closely with development teams to improve build reliability, deployment efficiency and operational resilience.
- Maintain version control, traceability and release management processes across the software lifecycle.
- Contribute to capacity planning and continuous improvement of the engineering platform.

Key Skills & Experience
- Commercial experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering supporting production software.
- Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jenkins or similar tools.
- Excellent knowledge of Docker and containerised application deployment.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Ansible, Terraform or equivalent.
- Scripting experience using Python, Bash or similar.
- Strong Linux administration skills.
- Experience deploying software into on-premises or restricted infrastructure environments.
- Familiarity with messaging platforms and relational databases such as RabbitMQ, MariaDB or equivalent technologies.

- Azure platform administration.
- Monitoring and managing distributed software deployments.
- Experience working within highly regulated or mission-critical environments.
- Knowledge of modern observability, deployment automation and release management best practices.
