DevOps Engineer (Cloud Migration & Platform Engineering)
A hands-on engineering role combining AWS migration work with platform and developer experience improvements on a newly won client engagement, fully remote, paying £60,000-£70,000.
About the Company
Our client is a global technology consultancy with a growing Cloud and DevOps practice based in Belfast, operating as part of their wider London delivery organisation. They have recently won a significant engagement with an energy trading business and are building the delivery team for it now. This is one of the first hires onto that engagement, and the role carries visibility at senior level within the business.
The Role
This is a broad DevOps role with two strands of work running alongside each other. The first is migration: moving an on-premise VMware estate onto AWS EC2, beginning with the logical test environment, which calls for genuine vSphere and ESXi depth rather than cloud experience alone. The second is platform: improving self-service tooling, CI/CD and the parts of the deployment process that currently leave engineers waiting. You would work embedded in the client's team day to day while being employed, paid and developed by the consultancy, with a manager in Belfast responsible for your progression and for your next engagement once this one completes.

Key Responsibilities
- Migrate on-premise VMware workloads onto AWS EC2, starting with the logical test estate.
- Own CI/CD pipelines end to end, building and maintaining Azure DevOps YAML pipelines.
- Develop self-service tooling that removes the bottlenecks currently slowing developers down.
- Manage containerised workloads on EKS, authoring and maintaining Helm charts.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration through infrastructure as code.
- Administer Linux and Windows server estates across development, test and production.
- Build observability across the platform using tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus and Splunk.
- Work with security teams to embed container and Kubernetes security into the delivery process.
- Act as a visible technical point of contact for the client throughout the engagement.
What You'll Need
Essential:
- Experience in a DevOps, platform, infrastructure or build engineering role.
- Strong hands-on AWS experience, specifically EC2 and EKS.
- Demonstrable end-to-end ownership of CI/CD pipelines, ideally Azure DevOps with YAML.
- Hands-on VMware vSphere and ESXi administration, including migrating virtualised workloads.
- Helm chart authoring alongside practical day-to-day Kubernetes experience.
- Linux server administration and scripting in Bash and/or PowerShell.

Desirable:
- Windows Server administration across a virtualised estate.
- Observability tooling including Splunk, Grafana or Prometheus, with experience building alerting rather than inheriting it.
- Container and Kubernetes security, including exposure to threat modelling.
- Infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a consultancy or client-facing delivery environment.
- Exposure to energy, commodities or financial trading platforms.
- Relevant AWS certification.
