About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled DevOps Engineer to join a secure engineering environment supporting the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a critical business platform and its associated services. This role is integral to ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of systems operating within a secure operational environment. The successful candidate will work within an established engineering team, supporting AWS-hosted infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and live services. Collaborating closely with development, support, and platform teams, you will play a vital role in maintaining operational stability while spearheading automation initiatives, infrastructure enhancements, and service resilience strategies. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge cloud technologies within a secure, regulated environment, contributing to the stability and security of mission-critical services.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in platform engineering, infrastructure management, and DevOps practices, with experience working within highly secure and regulated environments. Essential skills include proficiency in AWS cloud services, infrastructure as code, containerization, and automation tools. Candidates should have hands-on experience with Terraform, Docker, NGINX, PostgreSQL, and Linux administration. Knowledge of networking technologies such as VPNs, Transit Gateway, and API Gateway is also required. Additionally, familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, and security best practices is vital. Desirable qualifications include experience with cloud platform technologies like AWS SageMaker, Python scripting, container orchestration, and application support for microservices architectures. Strong troubleshooting, analytical skills, and effective stakeholder communication are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities
- Support and maintain AWS-hosted infrastructure and platform services to ensure high availability and security.
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform to automate provisioning and configuration.
- Support Docker-based applications across development, testing, and production environments to facilitate seamless deployment and scalability.
- Assist with the development and support of CI/CD pipelines utilizing Jenkins, Groovy, and GitLab to streamline deployment processes.
- Monitor platform health, performance, and availability using Elastic, Kibana, and related observability tools, ensuring proactive incident detection.
- Investigate and resolve infrastructure, deployment, and service-related incidents to minimize downtime and impact.
- Support networking technologies including VPNs, OpenVPN, Transit Gateway, and API Gateway to ensure secure connectivity.
- Maintain and optimize platform services such as NGINX and PostgreSQL, including patching and security updates.
- Contribute to operational resilience, disaster recovery planning, and service continuity activities to safeguard critical systems.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and operational procedures for team reference and compliance.
- Collaborate with development teams to improve deployment processes, automation, and overall system efficiency.
- Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and on-call support to ensure continuous service availability.
- Adhere to established engineering standards, security controls, and operational policies to maintain compliance and best practices.
- Support a 24/7 operational environment, including participation in on-call rotas as required.
