Location: Newcastle (Hybrid, 3 days onsite per week)
Employment Type: 12-Month FTC with strong intention to convert to PERM
Security Requirement: Must be eligible for SC Clearance
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a high-performing delivery team supporting large-scale digital transformation programmes. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities and enjoys driving modern engineering practices across cloud, automation, security, and platform engineering.
You will work closely with development teams, architects, security specialists, and client stakeholders to design, build, automate, and continuously improve secure and scalable platforms. The successful candidate will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, influence technical decisions, and provide guidance across multiple delivery workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
DevOps & Platform Engineering
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support secure and efficient software delivery.
- Create automated deployment processes and release frameworks.
- Configure and administer DevOps toolchains including GitLab, Jenkins, SonarQube, and testing platforms.
- Support development teams with environment provisioning, automation, and deployment best practices.
- Implement Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Continuous Testing practices across projects.
- Build and maintain reusable Infrastructure as Code assets.

Cloud & Infrastructure
- Design and deploy cloud-native solutions across AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
- Manage containerized workloads and orchestration platforms.
- Implement infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and observability capabilities.
- Ensure platform resilience, scalability, and performance.
Automation & Scripting
- Develop automation scripts using Python, PowerShell, Bash, TypeScript, or Node.js.
- Eliminate manual processes through automation.
- Develop automated integrations between systems and APIs.
Security & Reliability Engineering
- Embed DevSecOps practices into CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement security controls, vulnerability scanning, and compliance automation.
- Support security testing and remediation activities.
- Ensure adherence to security, operational, and architectural standards.
Technical Leadership (SFIA 5)
- Provide technical leadership to engineering and delivery teams.
- Influence technical direction and DevOps strategy.
- Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define platform requirements and delivery roadmaps.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, automation, security, and operational excellence.
