DevOps Engineer – AWS / Terraform / CI/CD
Location: Newcastle – Hybrid, 2 days per month onsite
Contract: 3 months
Day Rate: Up to £350 per day
Start: ASAP

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a major UK digital transformation programme, supporting the design, build and improvement of secure, scalable cloud infrastructure.

You will work across development and infrastructure teams to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments and Infrastructure as Code, helping to improve automation, deployment efficiency, security and platform reliability.

This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone with strong AWS, Terraform and CI/CD experience who is comfortable working across complex enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Build, test and optimise end-to-end CI/CD pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration and deployment processes.
  • Support the reliability, availability and performance of development and production environments.
  • Identify and resolve complex infrastructure and deployment issues.
  • Work closely with development, engineering and wider technical teams to align infrastructure with project requirements.
  • Improve automation and deployment processes to reduce operational risk and manual intervention.
  • Provide technical guidance and contribute to key infrastructure and architecture decisions.
  • Ensure security is embedded throughout infrastructure and deployment processes.

Essential Experience

  • 5+ years' commercial DevOps experience within complex environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines across multiple environments.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, particularly Terraform.
  • Experience with tools such as CDK, Packer and Ansible.
  • Strong scripting capability using Python and/or Shell scripting.
  • Strong understanding of Git, branching strategies and source-control best practices.
  • Experience configuring and managing GitLab runners.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure design, automation and deployment principles.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and work effectively across multiple technical teams.
