Role Description

The DevOps Engineer role at The Travel Corporation is a fixed-term contract, on-site position based in hybrid. This role focuses on maintaining and evolving the scalable, cloud-native infrastructure that supports TTC’s travel platforms and internal systems. Working within a GitOps model on AWS, the DevOps Engineer will manage Kubernetes deployments across multiple brands and environments, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in TeamCity, and automate operational workflows across Linux-based environments.

  • Managing and improving EKS clusters and their tooling
  • Maintaining declarative deployment manifests
  • Monitoring system performance and reliability through Datadog
  • Troubleshooting production issues
  • Enhancing security and resilience across the estate

The role involves close collaboration with software development, technology, product, and operations teams to ensure the stable, efficient, and secure delivery of services, and to contribute to the continuous improvement of development and release processes. As a contract position, we are looking for someone who can integrate quickly and deliver impact at pace.

Qualifications and Expertise

  • Solid System Administration background, including Linux server management, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and security best practices.
  • Practical experience with Continuous Integration and delivery pipelines (e.g., TeamCity, GitHub Actions, etc.) and build/release automation.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS (EKS, ECR, S3, CloudFront, RDS, IAM), and with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience deploying and managing workloads using GitOps practices (ArgoCD) and Kustomize, or comparable declarative/IaC tooling such as Terraform, Helm, or CloudFormation.
  • Experience with logging and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK/OpenSearch.
  • Strong version control and collaboration skills using Git and GitHub, including working with automated provisioning and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with modern development practices and scripting/software development (e.g., Bash, Python, or similar) to automate infrastructure and operational tasks.
  • Exposure to autoscaling, cost optimisation, and security tooling (e.g., KEDA, Karpenter, External Secrets, cert-manager, Kyverno, Trivy) is beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience, AWS or K8 certifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional, diverse teams.
  • Experience in travel, hospitality, or other customer-facing industries is beneficial but not required.
