DevOps Engineer – National Security
Location: Central London Working Pattern: Full-time onsite Employment Type: Permanent Salary: Competitive + Bonus & Benefits Security Clearance: Active SC or DV required | eDV Sponsorship Available
About the Opportunity
We are working with a fast-growing, specialist engineering SME operating within the Defence and National Security sector, looking to expand its technical capabilities with the addition of experienced DevOps and Cloud Engineers.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team working on technically challenging, mission-critical programmes, with exposure to modern cloud technologies and secure infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, deploy and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure.
- Develop and manage containerised environments using Kubernetes, EKS and OpenShift.
- Build, maintain and optimise CI/CD pipelines to support efficient software delivery.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation solutions.
- Support the deployment, monitoring and maintenance of applications across secure environments.
- Work closely with Software Engineers, Data Engineers and other technical specialists.
- Identify opportunities to improve platform reliability, performance, security and scalability.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and deployment issues.
- Contribute to technical decisions, engineering standards and continuous improvement.
- Support the delivery of innovative solutions across National Security programmes.

Essential Skills
- Proven commercial experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering or Cloud Engineering role.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Experience working with Kubernetes, EKS and/or OpenShift.
- Good understanding of containerisation, cloud-native architecture and deployment processes.
- Experience with CI/CD principles and automated deployment processes.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Understanding of infrastructure security, reliability and automation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Adaptability and a willingness to learn new technologies.
Desirable Skills
- Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Docker and container orchestration.
- CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
- Linux administration and scripting.
- Python, Bash or other automation languages.
- Monitoring and observability tools.
- Experience working within secure, regulated or classified environments.
- Previous exposure to Defence, Government or National Security programmes.
