Location: Remote - Travel required across during initial knowledge transfer for 1st 3 months (costs covered, depending on distance)
Contract Length: 12 Months (with scope to extend)

We are supporting a public sector client in hiring a DevOps Engineer to join a platform engineering team supporting a key policing system within a secure, regulated environment.
This is a hands-on development and support role working across legacy and modern infrastructure, maintaining and improving platform services, CI/CD pipelines, and containerised workloads. The successful candidate will take ownership of their domain, contribute to service documentation and peer reviews, and support the application and database teams across a complex, mission-critical environment.
This role suits a mid-level DevOps Engineer with at least 3 years of DevOps experience, comfortable working with AWS, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and ECS, and confident supporting legacy infrastructure alongside modern platform tooling.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support existing platform infrastructure across AWS cloud and Linux environments
- Build, configure, and support CI/CD pipelines, ensuring reliable and repeatable deployments across environments
- Deploy and manage containerised workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS ECS
- Write and maintain Bash scripts and automation tooling to support platform operations and service management
- Provide L3 support for platform issues, including problem resolution, root cause analysis, and service restoration
- Take ownership of legacy infrastructure components, becoming a subject matter expert for assigned services
- Maintain and update service documentation, ensuring accuracy and operational clarity across the team
- Undertake peer reviews and adhere to coding standards and best practices throughout development activity
- Support integration with auditing and protective monitoring services in line with security and compliance requirements
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in a DevOps, Platform Developer, or similar hands-on engineering role
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and Linux system administration
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS ECS for containerised workload deployment and management
- CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance experience
- Bash scripting experience for automation and platform support tasks
- Comfortable working with and supporting legacy infrastructure environments
- Strong problem-solving, documentation, and peer review skills

Desirable Skills
- Experience with Nginx or Apache Tomcat and HTTP server configuration
- Oracle experience including Oracle 11, RAC, RMAN, Partitioning, or PL/SQL
- Elasticsearch experience including administration and support
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, Oracle Solaris 10, or Windows Server 2008 to 2019 experience
- VMware ESX v6 hypervisor experience
- ETL pipeline experience
- Python scripting for legacy system maintenance
- Java SE 8 familiarity
- Ansible or Terraform experience
- Git and deployment pipeline governance experience
- IBM Initiate Master Data Management exposure
- GIS technology familiarity including OpenLayers, MapServer, or TileCache
