About The Role

Hippo is seeking a highly skilled Lead DevOps Engineer to join our Managed Services Team. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the architectural vision and technical strategy for both our clients and internal practices. This position involves acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, including C-suite executives, guiding their digital transformation initiatives and long-term technical roadmaps. The Lead DevOps Engineer will lead complex, strategic technical engagements, providing oversight and ensuring the delivery of automated, secure, and scalable infrastructure solutions. You will mentor and coach a team of DevOps engineers, fostering their professional development and technical expertise. Your expertise will influence architectural standards, contribute to pre-sales activities, and help shape the future direction of Hippo’s technical offerings. This role offers opportunities for growth at the Lead level, with a clear pathway for progression within the organization. The position requires flexibility to participate in an on-call rota as part of our Managed Services operations, ensuring continuous support for our clients’ critical systems.

Qualifications

  • Extensive senior-level experience as a DevOps Engineer or Technical Architect
  • Proven track record leading large-scale digital transformation projects
  • Expert proficiency with AWS cloud services and designing complex multi-cloud architectures
  • Advanced scripting and automation skills in Python
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, particularly EKS, and advanced CI/CD tooling
  • Deep expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code, especially Terraform for complex deployments
  • Strong ability to influence and communicate effectively with C-suite and executive stakeholders
  • Comprehensive knowledge of security, networking, and governance principles in cloud environments
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment, including pre-sales and business development
  • Mastery of Agile methodologies and their application in distributed teams
  • Eligible for SC Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Define, evangelize, and implement architectural standards, best practices, and technical strategies across Hippo’s delivery practice
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, guiding their long-term technical strategy and digital transformation initiatives
  • Lead complex, strategic technical engagements, providing oversight and quality assurance for automated infrastructure solutions
  • Mentor and coach DevOps engineers and senior technical staff, fostering skill development and technical excellence
  • Drive pre-sales activities by leading technical responses to bids and shaping new business opportunities
  • Contribute to Hippo’s thought leadership through public speaking, writing, and community engagement
  • Make and communicate key architectural decisions that impact multiple projects or clients
  • Lead recruitment efforts for engineering roles, ensuring the growth and development of Hippo’s Managed Services and DevOps communities
  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide continuous support for critical client systems
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to continually enhance Hippo’s technical offerings
