Senior DevOps / Infrastructure Development Engineer
6-Month Contract | Financial Services | Glasgow / Hybrid | £580
About the Role
We're partnering with a leading global Financial Services organisation to recruit an experienced Senior DevOps / Infrastructure Development Engineer for an initial 6-month contract.
This is a hands-on engineering role within a high-performing DevOps and Platform Engineering team, focused on developing software, automation and tooling that enables the organisation to build, test, deploy and operate infrastructure at scale.
The successful candidate will combine strong software development skills with infrastructure and Linux expertise. You will spend significant time writing production-quality code, developing automation, building CI/CD pipelines, integrating APIs and platforms, and creating automated testing frameworks.
This is not a traditional infrastructure support role. We're looking for an engineer who approaches infrastructure as software and is comfortable applying modern software engineering principles to enterprise infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development & Automation
- Design, develop and maintain production-quality Python applications, automation and infrastructure tooling.
- Build reusable frameworks and libraries for infrastructure provisioning, configuration, validation and deployment.
- Develop APIs and integrations between internal platforms, vendor technologies and enterprise services.
- Write clean, modular, maintainable and testable code following modern software engineering practices.
- Refactor and improve existing automation to increase reliability, scalability and maintainability.
- Develop tooling that removes manual operational processes and enables self-service infrastructure.
- Implement robust error handling, logging, monitoring and exception management within automation.
- Work with Git-based development workflows, branching strategies, pull requests and peer code reviews.
DevOps & CI/CD
- Design, develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure, applications, automation and platform services.
- Automate the complete software delivery lifecycle from code commit through build, test, validation and deployment.
- Implement automated unit, integration, regression and infrastructure testing.
- Develop pipeline quality gates to prevent defective or insecure code from reaching production.
- Integrate security, vulnerability and compliance checks into CI/CD workflows.
- Automate release processes and deployment validation.
- Improve pipeline performance, reliability and developer experience.
- Establish repeatable deployment patterns across development, test, pre-production and production environments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
