About the role
We are seeking an experienced DevOps & Environment Manager to lead the stability, security, automation and lifecycle management of AWS environments supporting mission-critical platforms.
You will own environment strategy and operational readiness across DEV, QA, UAT, pre-production and production, ensuring environments are secure, consistent, resilient, auditable and production-ready. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with operational governance and people leadership, helping teams move from reactive support to predictable, risk-led delivery.

- Own AMI refresh cycles and lead Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) patching.
- Coordinate database patching across SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Sybase environments.
- Maintain forward-looking patch calendars aligned with vendor releases, vulnerabilities and business risk.
- Ensure patching and major environment changes are tested, approved, communicated and fully evidenced.
- Build and enhance Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
- Standardize provisioning through reusable modules and reduce configuration drift and operational toil.
- Integrate smoke tests, health checks and post-deployment validation into CI/CD pipelines.
- Improve monitoring, alerting, dashboards, logging and operational readiness using actionable, SRE-aligned practices.
- Identify and remediate security, compliance, configuration and platform risks.
- Lead root-cause analysis and implement preventative automation to improve resilience and recovery readiness.
- Manage, mentor and guide DevOps and environment engineering teams.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Security, Infrastructure and Operations teams on releases, changes and risk reduction.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
